Internet Tips from Mom
This morning when I dropped my mother off at work, she asked if I could find a book for her.
“My coworkers told me Ebay has secondhand books,” she said, rummaging in her purse. She came up with a piece of paper on which she had carefully written the title and author of an anatomy book she wanted. “Maybe you can find it cheaper there?”
“Sure, no problem,” I said. I took the paper from her and glanced at it. “Oh, the Netter book. Any edition?”
“I know there’s a second edition out, so at least second. Whatever’s newest.” She gathered up her purse and her work bag, and exited the car. As she slammed the door shut, she thought of something and leaned back at me.
“Ebay!” she shouted, through the closed window. “Try Ebay!” She pantomined clicking on a computer mouse, although she might have been demonstrating a nervous twitch in her finger.
“I know how to find books online, Mom!” I yelled back.
She nodded, not hearing me. “Ebay!” she said again. She waved goodbye and went to work.
